== History ==

Las Terrenas was founded in 1946, when the then President Rafael Leonidas Trujillo ordered the rural inhabitants of Santo Domingo to resettle in the town as farmers and fishermen. Las Terrenas was then a small fishing village isolated from the rest of the country.
But it was worth, the heavenly beauty of the place one more motivated to make the effort, and gradually, other European nationalities came to try a bit of paradise. Over the years the village was developed calm and old fishermen's cabins have been slowly transformed into bars, restaurants and shops. The beauty of the place, the almost perfect coexistence of different nationalities (French, Italian, German, Swiss, Canadian, American, Spanish, Latin and Dominicans), helped make Las Terrenas at the headquarters of national events.Today, Las Terrenas is a seaside resort that can accommodate equally those who want to share family vacation and those who want to celebrate with friends, sports and those who want to relax, with many activities to do.
Samana was a famous slave trade port for the British in the early seventeenth century. Today, people of these states are a combination of Taino, Spanish, West Indian and African slaves. Las Terrenas name originates from the French La terrienne (The landlord).
